My name is Tina Shaw. I have been running Reiki courses since 2002 and began running courses for Reiki Evolution in 2003. I am based in Essex near London with access from the M25 and London Underground Central Line.
I host First and Second Degree courses every month and Master Teacher courses several times each year from my venue in Loughton. I am also teaching the new “Reiki Deepening Course”.
I really enjoyed my training with Reiki Evolution and decided to continue with the same approach. The courses offer an excellent structure, without restricting the uniqueness of each individual student. I love to work simply and intuitively but appreciate that some people are more comfortable with set procedures, the courses allow for both ways of working. The small classes and comprehensive materials mean that students can really relax and get the most out of the course day. Reiki Evolution also offers long-term support by internet and email, introducing students to a community of other like-minded people, plus access to all Reiki Evolution materials and updates.
My courses
I love running courses, every student is unique and I enjoy learning from them as much as I do teaching. I delight in seeing and hearing their experiences. It never gets boring. I hear of new events, experiences and ideas all the time. I think it is important for a student to have the opportunity to interact with their teacher in person. Not everyone needs this, but for some it can make the difference between continuing their journey with Reiki or not. I like to make sure that all my students are happy and provide the opportunity for one to one training/support in person, as well as the group courses. This also makes sure that I never lose touch with what my students really want and need.
Reiki seems to mould itself to the requirements of each individual. Therefore, the benefits of doing a Reiki course are endless. For many it is the beginning of a life long journey of self-discovery, others spend their lives helping others and need something that is there to support them. Reiki is an excellent addition to other therapies, as it will benefit the therapist as well as the work they do. Reiki can enhance creativity and some students develop a sixth sense through working with Reiki. Overall, it provides students with a sense of calm, the strength to cope, when life takes a turn for the worse and courage to be more true to themselves, taking each moment as it comes.
Reiki shares
I host Reiki shares every other month where all Reiki students are welcome. A share is an ideal opportunity to practise your new skills and receive a short treatment. Everyone receives a Reiju empowerment and other willing Reiki Masters can give out empowerments too. Reiki shares really help students to develop with confidence, sharing experiences is a useful part of our development.
How I discovered Reiki
I stumbled across Reiki after a tough couple of years, just when I needed a positive change. I had often felt like I was passing on some sort of energy when I made contact with people. I wondered if it was my imagination or not. What I was passing on felt wonderful, but I had no idea what it was I was doing. I wondered if Reiki could help me to understand it better. I wondered how much more I could learn about energy. At this time in my life, I was doing temping work for the local council. I was very frustrated. In fact, it was driving me to tears. Once I discovered Reiki Evolution, I knew it was the right type of course for me. I was desperately hoping that the course they were running the following weekend would have a place left for me. So I made the call. Unfortunately, the course was fully booked and I would have to wait two weeks, which at the time felt like a decade away. I needed a positive change in my life and fast. The next day at work, I was even more distraught and I came home feeling thoroughly depressed and near to tears. As I walked through the door, Lorraine was leaving a message on my answer machine. A place had become available this weekend. I have never rushed to answer the phone so quickly.
My first real confirmation that Reiki was doing something positive, struck me one morning, a few weeks after my first course. I woke up from a great night's sleep and realised that I had been sleeping well ever since the course. I had always had trouble getting to sleep. Nothing ever helped I couldn't believe something as simple as Reiki had worked. I had phases where I doubted my abilities and then phases where I felt more confident. I booked the second course hoping I would be ready when the time came. Luckily, everything seemed to fall into place.
Practising Hatsurei was the first time that I had experienced true peace of mind. I had tried to meditate before and never managed it. I never really knew what I was aiming for. Now I knew, I definitely didn't want to stop.
Reiki seems to take you where you need to go as long as you don't fight it. By the time I had absorbed all the information from Second Degree, there was no way I could resist seeing what would come of the Master course. I didn't think for a moment that I would want to teach but I didn't want to miss out on anything either. I soon found myself becoming the person I used to be years before, more confident and more ready to live in the moment.
Having witnessed the positive changes in myself, it was only natural that I would want to share that with others. I started treating members of the public and was amazed at how Reiki seemed to be governing the situation. Giving Reiki treatments is a joy and I don't believe in spending the majority of my life working in a job that makes me miserable. People kept asking me if I could teach them. In the end, I felt drawn towards teaching it somehow seemed a waste not to. It was a scary thought but I took a deep breath and did it anyway.
Working with Reiki Evolution
When I started working professionally, I was only expecting it to be part time, a bit of extra pocket money. Reiki had other plans, within a year of teaching, I was busy with several courses a month and regular treatments. I had to adjust my plans and my paperwork to accommodate the workload. Just as I thought, I was on top of things I received an email from Taggart, asking if I would like to teach the ‘occasional’ student that he could no longer find room for on his courses. I said yes, it was a good opportunity for me, plus a way to give something back to Reiki Evolution for their training and support. The word ‘occasional’ turned out to be an understatement, I soon found myself running as many courses for Reiki Evolution as I was for myself. So Reiki has become a full time job that I very much enjoy. I especially like the fact that I get to spend half my time with my eyes closed in blissful meditation.
Reiki has really helped me to achieve a balanced and contented way of living and I am sure it could do the same for others.
Best wishes,
Tina
