Hello, my name is Marilyn Harvey and I live in South-East London. I run Reiki Evolution courses in Victoria, London, just a few minutes walk from Buckingham Palace. Victoria station is also close by. I have been teaching Reiki since March 2008 and am now delighted to have been invited to join Taggart’s team at Reiki Evolution.
I trained with Reiki Evolution and have adopted the same approach to teaching Reiki when taking my own courses. I took my Reiki Master/Teacher course in April 2007 and around the same time qualified as an EFT Practitioner. I thoroughly enjoy giving Reiki and EFT treatments at Victoria and from two other locations in South London.
My Courses
I love running Reiki courses and adapting each one to suit the needs of the students. It is wonderful to meet so many different people and to be part of their Reiki journey. I value the spiritual and life experiences individual students bring to each course and encourage them to share these so that the whole group can benefit from them.
The training days are informal and conducted in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. As Reiki Evolution courses are limited to 4-6 people, there is time for students to ask questions and receive more attention than they would in a larger group. With a combination of home study and training days, courses at Reiki Evolution allow students to learn at their own pace and in their own style. Time is given between courses for students to develop their connection to Reiki before moving on to the next level. This doesn’t happen on all Reiki courses and I have welcomed some students who have previously attended Reiki 1 and 2 courses that have been taught together over just a few days. They were left feeling very disappointed and confused, so came along to learn Reiki in a meaningful way.
I have always used Reiki Evolution materials for my own courses. They are a great resource because they are so comprehensive, easy to work with and are a permanent reference after the training day. My students have found that the visual and auditory balance provided by the manuals and CDs enhances their learning. They also appreciate not having to worry about taking notes on the training day, as they have studied the materials beforehand. This allows them more time to enjoy the experiences of the day.
The on-going support offered by Reiki Evolution is most valuable and, as well as inviting my students to join the Internet group, I encourage them to contact me should they need questions answered or simply an informal chat about Reiki. I feel it is really important that this personal and internet support is available so that students don’t feel isolated after their courses. I also send out weekly Distant Reiju Empowerments for students to receive.

So that I can give further support, help develop confidence and give the opportunity to share experiences, I hope it will be possible to run Reiki Shares from Victoria in the near future.
My background and journey with Reiki
From the 1970s I pursued a varied and demanding career in teaching, taking degree courses on the way as well as having a family. Then, around ten years ago a succession of painful, physical problems, requiring medication and operations, got in the way and made life even more challenging. It wasn’t until late 2005 that the course of my life began to change.
It was then that I was introduced to Reiki, quite unexpectedly, by a well respected Spiritualist Medium who told me she could see me giving Reiki treatments. At the time I wasn’t really sure what Reiki was and didn’t give it much thought. However, her words kept coming back to me and, after a few weeks, I started investigating!
While searching for somewhere to train I was constantly being drawn back to the Reiki Evolution website, mainly because the Reiki training being offered was based on the original Japanese system as taught by its founder, Mikao Usui. As soon as my journey with Reiki began, I knew that Usui’s simple yet powerful system, one which is fundamentally about self healing and spiritual development, the idea of Mindfulness and living the Precepts, (Usui’s guidelines for living our lives), was the path I was meant to follow.
It was strange, but as soon as I posted my application for the Reiki First Degree Course, I realised I was being directed towards a life-changing journey. After receiving my first empowerment I felt overwhelmed by the Energy and truly connected to it. This became even stronger after Reiki 2 and stronger still after the Master/Teacher course.
Experiencing the flow of Reiki Energy reminded me of a time, many years ago when I received spiritual healing and experienced beautiful colours and an awareness of a strong energy around me. I attended some healing development classes and afterwards treated friends and family, though only on a few occasions. Since that time I have been aware of energy in the form of a white light that I could draw down through my crown. Reiki, however, felt stronger yet gentle, bringing with it a great sense of peace.
Some months after taking my Reiki Master/Teacher course with Reiki Evolution, I made the decision to leave my teaching career behind as the time seemed right to look for a therapy room and start a Practice. I continued to treat family and friends at home and in the meantime found a small but pleasant room at a local acupuncture clinic. A year later I found two more lovely treatment rooms, including one in Victoria. It wasn’t long before quite a few people, who had come along for treatments, enquired about learning Reiki as they had found it so wonderfully healing and wanted to know how to treat themselves. It was then that I decided to put my teaching cap back on, but this time to teach Reiki!
Since starting my courses I have been committed to teaching Usui’s simple, yet powerful system. I am enthusiastic in my approach to teaching and highly supportive of my students. Through practising and teaching Reiki, I frequently see how its gentle healing energy enables everyone to develop at all levels - emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically. Reiki is a great gift, bringing much comfort and it is humbling and rewarding to be able to treat and teach people who are drawn towards its love and light.
Reiki has transformed my life by giving me a sense of purpose, stronger intuition and inner peace. I have noticed positive changes and welcome even more in the months and years ahead.
Reiki is a life-time journey but, with commitment, will lead to greater self-awareness, spiritual growth, calmness, contentment and much more.
