My name is Karen Font-Garcia and I run Reiki Evolution Courses in Hampshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight. I am based in Fareham, near Southampton with easy access from London and all surrounding areas and next to the beautiful sea!
I am extremely passionate about Reiki and have been teaching courses since 2006 when I founded the Golden Light Reiki School. I am so delighted to have been invited to join the illustrious Reiki Evolution team of teachers by Taggart and look forward to assisting you on your Reiki journey.
My Courses
I hold Reiki First Degree courses monthly and Second Degree every other month. I run Master Teacher courses several times a year often with attunements at sacred sites such as Stonehenge, Avebury or Glastonbury as the sun rises or sets, truly beautiful... I also teach the Reiki Deepening course several times a year. In addition I run retreats in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight and other workshops for personal development and assist you on your spiritual journey. I am a Meditation Teacher, Nordic Walking instructor and often combine the 2 to lead NW meditations and am also training as a ChiBall Instructor a mixture of yoga, pilates, energies, colour, chakras and aromas which works beautifully alongside reiki.
I teach group courses but also offer 1:1 teachings on request to fit in with your schedule. My teaching approach very much reflects my interpretation of the reiki journey. It has a practical and logical aspect in order that your teachings may be implemented into every day life but in addition there is a wonderful spiritual and sacred element which is always present. Your reiki journey is a very personal thing and I pride myself on gently guiding you when requested whilst providing you with the environment you need as an individual to allow yourself to grow……and watching this happen never ceases to bring me joy!
Reiki Shares
I hold a monthly Reiki Share on a Wednesday evening for 2 hours (although sometimes longer as everyone has such a great time they don’t want to go!). I have been running these for 5 years now. Open to all Reiki Practitioners of all levels and lineages and also non-practitioners who are interested in learning more about the wonderful world of reiki (please contact me if you’re thinking of coming along and I can give you more details).
We start with refreshments, guided meditation or I teach a Reiki technique or give a Reiju empowerment, then exchange reiki on couches with the opportunity to practice or refresh existing skills or for those new to Reiki to experience it. The shares are a wonderful opportunity to take time for yourself, receive healing and build confidence in the practical aspects amongst likeminded people and make new friends. I hire a hall where we have sufficient space for 4 couches (provided), a fabulous kitchen for our refreshments and the whole place to ourselves. I ask for a £4 contribution towards expenses which includes refreshments and often scrumptious cakes!
Background
I served in the Royal Navy for 16 years both as a Wren and then as a Commissioned Officer. I loved every moment of being in the Navy – the camaraderie, the travel, the adventure and the zest for life, not to mention the sense of humour. I was extremely fortunate to serve on board ship and ‘see the world’ and during this period learnt many wonderful life skills to benefit me in the present. After 16 years my Commission came to an end and it was time to progress to the next adventure.
My Reiki Journey
Prior to leaving the Royal Navy I planned a year’s travelling to ease me gently into the outside world. The time came and I had the most wonderful adventures taking my classic VW campervan all across Europe and ultimately to visit my Spanish relatives with my fabulous mother as company for this trip. My solo adventures continued on to America, then onto South Africa – adjusting, relaxing and living life to the full and having the most incredible experiences.
All too soon my travelling came to an end and it seemed strange not to be working for the first time in my adult life. I had gone from an incredibly stressful, action based environment in the Royal Navy at 200 miles an hour, then gently decelerating during my travels to all of a sudden what I perceived to be a brickwall! It was a period of transition and major change with all the potential to be exciting but at the time it all seemed extremely scary. I met a very gentle lady who did Reiki which I had never heard of but was keen to experience..
I remember my first Reiki session as if it were only yesterday – the most incredible colours, visions, sensations, clearing thoughts, waves of energy and giving me exactly what I needed at that time – inner peace, strength and clarity. I was absolutely ‘blown away’ by the whole experience and couldn’t wait to learn more. The moment I contacted my teacher I felt a connection – she was passionate about reiki, used it every day in order to enhance her life and that of others and we remain close friends 7 years later and I hold a great deal of respect for her.
My first degree was the most incredible experience and I remember thinking ‘I can not believe this has always been here and I didn’t know’, I then considered how it would have sat alongside my Naval career and my uniform in shirt and tie. Reiki had found me when I needed it the most and when the time was right……I was over the moon and for me it felt like I was ‘coming home’ – it just felt right.
Over time I qualified in other holistics ~ aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian head massage, then as an NLP practitioner, Meditation teacher, Nordic Walking instructor and continue studying to this day to give my students the very best learning experience I can….
My Teaching Journey
I started my own Reiki clinic and was loving the practical and personal journey that reiki was showing me and had no intention of teaching it, or so I thought. The Universe then provided me with the most humbling experience and the opportunity for incredible growth. I was recommended to the wife of a gentleman diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer. The gentleman in question was a conventional GP and anaesthetist and the prognosis was not good and he was the kindest and admirable individual. Our sessions were often accompanied by the family cats who would greet me at the front door (times/days varied and yet they always knew I was coming) and then curl up around him as he received his treatment.
This journey lasted 3 months during which time the reiki gave him peace of mind, deep sleep and helped with a beautifully calm transition. I decided there and then that I should be sharing the wonders of reiki with others and that I wished to teach it and progress on my journey. I have never looked back and remember the excitement I felt on the first course I ran; 5 years later that feeling has never gone away.
I love the realisation and ‘lightbulb’ moments I see on first degrees, the ‘wow’ moments at second degree as the studies continue and the joy and delight of Reiki Masters and Teachers as they progress on the next step of their journeys in the realisation of all the wonderful things they can do for others whilst of course continuing on their own personal journeys too
